For those of you that are experianced world of warcraft players, you understand just how valuable a priest is to a group. The world of warcraft priest is unlike any other class, as it is a pure healing machine. As a priest you will be paying more attention to maintaining the health of your group, than to inflicting damage towards your enemies.
WOW Priest Leveling & Quest Guide
Although the priest is the most powerful healer in world of warcraft, healing is just a small part of what the priest is capable of. The Priest usually plays best as part of group. When a priest gets up to the higher levels they are very capable at soloing but early on it's best to play with a group. This may make the priest seem like it's not all that fun to play but this is not the case, the priest has plenty of cool offensive and defensive spells to use. One last thing before we move on, if your into playing PVP be aware that the priest is a hot target in PVP, you will want to be extra careful. This just goes to show how valuable a Priest is. Every group appreciates the talents of a priest so you will never be without group invites.
Originally there were four priest races for the Alliance (draenei, dwarf, human, night elf) and just three for the Horde (blood elf, troll, undead).
We can now play a priest with four additional races (gnomes, taurens, goblins and worgens) thanks to the Cataclysm expansion.
Priest PVP Guide
Ok, enough chat lets get your wow priest up a few levels.
In the beginning the Lesser Heal spell will serve you well even though it does'nt sound like much, use it and the range spell Smite along with your first buff (Power Word Fortitude) and you will hold up reasonably well. Fortitude will assist your group, so as of now you will want to have it on all the time until you get something better. Even though the priest is the premier healer in world of warcraft does not mean that they don't have to keep a close eye on their own health and especially their mana, your group is relying on you to keep them healed and if you die so may they. Keep your distance, the Priest is not a melee fighter so don't play it like one. The farther you are from your enemies the better, let the hand to hand characters fight up close.
Once you reach level 4 you can use the debuff Shadow Word Pain, you will find this very helpful on your early levels. Continue using Shadow Word Pain and only switch back to Fortitude if needed. Strafe Smite from a distance to help keep mobs under control and be sure to watch for when your debuff Shadow Word Pain wears off.
At level 6 Power Word Shield will become available to you, use this when preparing to go into battle or any time you are under attack. Being that the priest is a frail character you will want to keep this shield up all the time, consider this a important part of playing a Priest. Also at level 6 you will want to visit a trainer to get your first substantial quest, take it and complete it as soon as you can.
Leveling to level 8 will let you use the HOT spell known as Renew and also Fade.Renew is a excellent heal over time spell that will come in handy whenever you or your group is under attack, use it and use it often. Fade is used to help control your enemies aggro, very useful to keep your foe's attention away from you.
Mind Blast is a very nice spell that you can use once you have leveled your WOW priest to level 10. Mind Blast is an awesome range attack spell that does great damage and doesn’t use too much mana. You now have the Resurrection spell which will let you resurrect your fellow players. Also at level 10 you will receive your first talent point, check out the three different directions in which you may build your priest.
You will finally get a good defensive buff called Inner Fire when you reach level 12, use it to protect against enemy attacks.
